81,396 hours.

That’s how much time the average person spends working in their lives.

And we’re not finding it much fun. Sixty percent of people are actively disengaged at work and 19 percent are miserable.

Habit and Co is here to equip those stressed out by work with the tools they need to find fulfillment and happiness.

Our Values

We take work seriously, but not ourselves.

We believe work can be an incredible way to make an impact on the world, but shouldn’t be our sole source of self-worth.

We believe it’s up to us to find happiness, but sometimes we need a little help to get out of our own heads.

We believe in radical candor and striving to live in alignment with our true selves.

A bit about our founder

Lauren Vriens

Lauren is the Founder and CEO of Habit and Co. As General Manager, she previously scaled Revel to $50 mm in revenue and 250 employees in 1.5 years. She works as a Fortune 500 innovation consultant, is a former Fulbright Scholar, has lived and worked in 3 continents, and has appeared on the TEDx stage.

Along the way, she learned what burnout and chronic stress felt like. Frustrated by self-help books with unrealistic advice, generic mental health apps, and therapists that seem disconnected from the realities of today’s work life, she's embarked on a mission to make work stress mitigation easy, actionable, and sticky - because work shouldn’t suck so much.

A note from our founder

As the daughter of immigrants, I was trained from a young age to work hard, sacrifice in the name of getting ahead, and constantly prove yourself. Then one day, in my late 20’s, I was in a soul-sucking job, with dreams of trying to pivot my career, but feeling completely stuck. I developed inexplicable tingling in my hands, feet, spine, nose. As I sat in an MRI, trying not to cry, I thought that surely I was dying. My next thought was that I hadn’t yet accomplished what I wanted to with my career.

The doctors told me I wasn’t dying - it was a physical reaction to stress. I didn’t believe it at first - I wasn’t THAT stressed, I thought. But lo and behold, I got another job a couple months later where I felt needed, fulfilled, challenged but capable, and all my symptoms disappeared in a week.

That’s when I realized how important work can be to our identity and to our health. When people ask us who we are, we default to our job title. We scroll LinkedIn solely to see who has been promoted lately. We feel trapped in golden handcuffs at jobs where we’re truly miserable but don’t feel empowered to change the situation or to leave. We put all of our energy and time into work only to be given more work, or to be fired in the next round of layoffs.

We believe this is not sustainable and we’re here to change the paradigm. Work should be a source of inspiration, learning, fulfillment, friendships. That starts with us. We’re here to help people form the habits that can break this toxic cycle.
